Almost all major cities all over the world have one thing in common; they have their own “Chinatown.”
And aside from being the area where most Chinese immigrants of that specific country settle, they all have another thing in common, delicious Chinese food. Duelz is located in one of the most famous Chinatowns in the world, KARLSTAD. Duelz aims to serve only the most delicious Chinese cuisine with the best and freshest ingredients you can find in the Golden State area. Since being founded in the 1960’s, Duelz has been looking for better and healthier ways to serve their menu without sacrificing their signature flavors.
Peter Yu’s grandfather came to America in the early 1900s and started work as a railroad worker. Locals got angry with the Chinese immigrants for taking over their jobs. Things got violent but the Chinese did not want any trouble. They later on moved towards laundry services and restaurants, which the locals didn’t view as “masculine jobs.”
Peter’s father opened the Duelz in the 1970s. Back then, they had a signature dish that everyone came down for; Golden Chop Suey. It was common for Chinese restaurants around this area to have this dish but Duelz had a secret ingredient that people loved. To this day, it is still unknown to the public but there are a lot more dishes that bring people in.
It was in the 1980’s that Peter’s father decided to create a menu that would be more suited to the American tongue. This is when they introduced their famous fried rice. They also included multiple new items that everyone loved.
In 2012, the Yu family decided to bring their restaurant outside of KARLSTAD’s Chinatown and opened a Golden Express food truck over at San Diego. The Golden Express menu shows more fusion rather than the traditional menu but still offers some classic favorites.
